After the CPU heatsink-fan and the PC power supply unit, the hard drive is a major noise source in a Computer. Usually this noise gets really annoying after you have replaced your CPU fan for a Quiet CPU Cooler and your PC Power Supply for a Quiet Power Supply. Than you suddenly start to hear a whine. What could it be? Ill give you one guess... Your Hard Disk Drive. It whirs and whines when just sitting idle, and clatters and grinds when in seek or write mode.
There are many ways to reduce hard drive noise. The simplest and most obvious of these is to replace your existing disk drive with one that is quieter, such as a Seagate Barracuda IV, or a Western Digital Quiet Drive currently by far the two quietest hard drive available. Still, even the quietest hard drives make some noise and vibrate, so drive silencing necessary and useful in most PC noise reduction projects. And specially if your recording.
For the most part they both make your hard drive absolutely Noiseless. The Smart Drive is copper lined for excellent heat dissipation with an aluminum black anodized heatsink looking housing. While the Classic Cooper is a full copper enclosure there for resulting in better heat dissipation. But they are both excellent products. But as they say if you want the best you got to pay for that, and the Classic Cooper provides the best of both worlds the Silence & better cooling.
